Comment:
This is a figure of a male bison, originally outlined in violet, and later repainted in black in certain parts, such as the lower part of its face, top of its forelimb or its belly. The animal is superimposed on remains of red paint which correspond to vertical claviform signs that are now very faint.
This bison shows some quite archaic pictorial conventions, such as having only one fore and rear limb or the twisted perspective of its horns. Nevertheless, its proportions and numerous details included, like the hooves, genitals, eye, beard and spear in its back, mean this figure is probably of Magdalenian age. Its superimposition on the claviform signs supports this idea.
Lower down on the same wall there are more black paintings and some engravings, but they cannot be seen in this photograph.
